We’ve been exploring Vermont and Lake Placid, NY this week as a destination for my sis and her husband to celebrate 10 years together. Today, we’ve got a few fun adventure ideas for the trip!

Both A and C are great skiiers, so time on the slopes is a must. After a long day of exercise in the fresh air, what could be tastier than fondue? Cheese, chocolate, then more cheese, then more chocolate!

My brother-in-law is a real beer guy and since Burlington, Vermont has been touted as the world’s 4th best city for beer lovers, a brewery tour is a must! There’s a host of craft breweries all over the state of Vermont and several famous tours. They’re considering this trip for March, but they migh just have to go back in May for one of 2 big annual beer festivals.

And if the snow is good and fluffy, a dogsled excursion could be a perfect afternoon in the wilderness.  Both Vermont and the Lake Placid area offer a few options. Just look at those furry faces, how can you resist?!

For today’s edition of Suitcase Tuesday, I’m whisking us to the cozy comforts of Whiteface Lodge with its plush bedding and crackling fires. This week, we’re providing inspiration to my sis and her husband for a special way to celebrate 10 years together.

After a short flight from Toronto on Porter Air to Burlington, Vermont, it’s a 2.5 hour drive to Whiteface Lodge in Lake Placid. It would be closer to ski and explore Sutton, but for such a momentous occasion, the extra trek to the Adirondaks is worth it!

Wake up to a nice cup of coffee by your own fire, then after a full day of slooshing on the Whiteface Mountain slopes, indulge in a swim and maple butter massage at the lodge spa… yum!

My sister and her husband are approaching a milestone anniversary this coming March: 10 years! My sis has asked for a little help in finding a special way to celebrate, so this week’s posts will all be related to a short getaway idea to… Lake Placid, New York!

Porter Airlines has just announced a new flight from Toronto to Burlington, Vermont making this an easy hop. With chatter of our first snowfall coming tonight, what better destination than snowy Lake Placid to serve as wintery inspiration for this anniversary gift.

I’ve already given a sneak peek into our invitations, but our amazing photographer Jessica just sent me a few more pictures that she stylized herself, capturing exactly the country chic feel I hoped our guests would experience when they happened across our invites in the mail!

I have always loved unusual stamps and really wanted to use vintage Canadians on our envelopes. The Paper Place was so kind to introduce me to Ron Carmichael on Ebay who hand-picked rustic outdoorsy stamps from his collection.

One of the best parts of the post-wedding calm is waiting for the photos to roll in. Remember the inspiration boards that I designed for Jessica’s wedding at The Fifth in Toronto and the blackboard we created for her seating chart? Well, I just received a few images of the place settings and the ceremony program that capture perfectly the black and white theme with a hint of green.

One of my favourite elements of the wedding’s stationary is the font called DearJoe. Simple elegance and slightly rustic. Perfect for The Fifth and this bride & groom!

I think I can safely say that this is the first post I’ve written while in full costume ;) We’re having a costume contest at work in 30 minutes and I’m dressed as a jellyfish – alot like this.

I’m so excited for our first Halloween in the new house and can’t wait to see how many kidlets come by and what kind of costumes they come up with. I didn’t carve a pumpkin this year because we have so many fun lanterns from the wedding that I’m going to sprinkle up the driveway. But, my sister did tackle the polkadot white pumpkin and they look amazing!

What are you planning for the weekend? We had frost on the grass for the first time this morning, winter is officially on the way. We have another low key weekend in store and even though I’m on a spending hiatus, I’m quite happy to daydream about the chairs we’ll one day have in front of our basement fireplace. Oversized white or comfy leather? Decisions, decisions…

Have any of you been spending time on Pinterest? I joined and created a few boards months ago but only really sunk my teeth into it last night. I discovered this room pinned by Christine Martinez (who has over 500,000 followers!) and am smitten with it in every single way. First of all, the light fixture is incredible. I’m not sure how I’m ever going to find one as perfect. I love the doubled carpets, what a great idea to create more space. I collect all kinds of textiles from my travels and they never seem to be quite the right size. I love how the owner’s put a bigger, basic carpet under the vibrant one from Turkey. So simple, but still so much personality. This is the look I’m going for in here! Clearly, I have some work to do.
